PROJECTS

Here is a sample of some of the work that takes place in my shop  bigsaxes.com

Tone Holes
One of the most common types of saxophone problems are with the tone holes. Over time they can become grungy and warped due to the conditions of everyday playing, weather, and transport. This may be further complicated by any damage to the alignment of the body tube such as dents and rough handling. Here are some photos of dirty and bent tone holes.

Over time dirt and corrosion builds up and needs to be cleaned to prevent wear on the pad.

Kangaroo Pads
Kangaroo pads are becoming increasingly popular and I have installed many sets to date. I would say they are very long lasting and the leather is tough yet supple and less likely to stick. I have installed them in my Tenor and Alto saxes and really loving them. They must be installed with level tone holes and flat pad cups. Sets of Roo pads cost around the $100.00 range depending on pad sizes and currency rates, and choice of resonator discs. Once installed properly they will last a long time with regular and proper cleaning. They have a very firm feel with a good pop sound on the tone holes.
